I've always loved that route - but I've only done it in a car. That sounds like an amazing ride!

Hi Joey & Ross,
My commute is on a two lane road with a (at times marginal) shoulder. A few too many large trucks wizzing by in the spray. i'd like to commute year round but... Ross, I was in Sacramento this past December to run the CIM Marathon. Wowl lots of people! RAMROD is a cool ride if you can win a lottery ticket, I'd like to ride over the North Cascades Pass, wanna join me?

Living in the Puget Sound area I agree with the weather sentiments below, but (maybe because I’m an idiot) I commute year around…don’t go very far, or very fast…I just go and love every minute of it. There really isn't a better way to start or end the day.

Timing and route are everything. On those nasty days with limited visibility, I leave early and stay the $#%* away from the highway. Wool has been a wonderful addition to the bicycle wardrobe this winter and will likely be worn well into spring…okay, probably summer and fall too.

Although I wasn't much into cycling at the time, I grew up in WA (Sumner/Puyallup/Auburn) so I can relate to your short season.

It is funny though, some of of the rides I'm interested in are actually up in the Northwest - specifically the Seattle to Portland and RAMROD. Guess the beauty of that area never leaves your psyche!

I live in Sacramento now and commute by bike year round. Can't imagine trying that feat "back home" near good ol' Puget Sound.

My one way milage to work is about 15 miles. Living a few miles south of the US/CAN border in WA State makes for a dark and dangerous commute (wet spray obliterates seeing me). So my commuting is late March until late October. I ride a Gunnar Sport, enjoy the hills, try to get a good workout, see the mountains and farm animals.

If you commute by bike on a regular or semi-regular basis, what is your commute like? Do you ride relaxed and casual? Do you incorporate your commute as an integral part of your train schedule? Do you ride the same bike you'd ride for the weekend group ride, or do you have a dedicated "commuter" bike?
